Taylor Fritz took on Denis Shapovalov in the semifinals and took down the Canadian by 6-3, 6(5)-7, and 6-3 sets. Fritz bounced back from 1-3 in the decisive set to take the next five games and win by 6-3.
World No. 19 and the 2022 U.S. Open semifinalist Frances Tiafoe is the most in-form American tennis star. He is fresh off winning the Laver Cup for his country.
The 24-year-old beat Uchiyama, Zapata Miralles, and Kecmanovic in straight sets to reach the last 4 of the Japan Open. He dropped his only set in the semi-final against Kwon Soon-woo but beat him impressively by 6-2, 0-6, and 6-4.
It will be Tiafoe’s second final appearance this year, and he will aim to go one better to win his first title.
Players
World No. 2 Casper Ruud leads the pack in the tournament. The 23-year-old Norwegian is enjoying a career-best season, yet we cannot see it as a success.
