Final Match Preview
World No. 11 Taylor Fritz will be keen to take the Japan Open on Sunday and enter the top 10. It will be his third final appearance this year.
The 24-year-old American won a couple of matches in three sets against James Duckworth and Hiroki Moriya to reach the quarter-finals. Fritz met the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios. Unfortunately, the Aussie withdrew due to a knee injury.
Taylor Fritz took on Denis Shapovalov in the semifinals and took down the Canadian by 6-3, 6(5)-7, and 6-3 sets. Fritz bounced back from 1-3 in the decisive set to take the next five games and win by 6-3.
World No. 19 and the 2022 U.S. Open semifinalist Frances Tiafoe is the most in-form American tennis star. He is fresh off winning the Laver Cup for his country.
The 24-year-old beat Uchiyama, Zapata Miralles, and Kecmanovic in straight sets to reach the last 4 of the Japan Open. He dropped his only set in the semi-final against Kwon Soon-woo but beat him impressively by 6-2, 0-6, and 6-4.
It will be Tiafoe’s second final appearance this year, and he will aim to go one better to win his first title.
World No. 2 Casper Ruud leads the pack in the tournament. The 23-year-old Norwegian is enjoying a career-best season, yet we cannot see it as a success. Ruud fell one game short at both the French Open and U.S. Open Grand Slams, finishing as the runner-up. He will be gunning for his first ATP 500 title.
World No. 8 Cameron Norrie was the 2nd seed. Unfortunately, he withdrew due to illness. Borna Coric replaces him.
