The WTA Tour continues in Asia with the Korea Open 2022, taking place from 19-25 Sept. This year, the 18th edition of the competition has been restored to WTA 250 category and will be played at Olympic Park Tennis Center in Seoul. Korea Open Tennis 2022: Players and Women’s Draw

2017 French Open champion and world no. 15 Jelena Ostapenko headlines the field as the top seed. World no. 24 Ekaterina Alexandrova, Magda Linette, and the defending champion Zhu Lin complete the top 4 seeds.

The 2021 US Open Grand Slam champion Emma Raducanu is among the top attractions of the field. This year’s Wimbledon semi-finalist, Tatjana Maria, will also compete for the Korea Open title.

Women’s Draw

Ostapenko (1) and Raducanu (6) anchor the top half of the draw and could meet in the semifinals. The 19-year-old Brit will take on Uchijima in the first round. Ostapenko will begin against the home hope Boyoung Jeong and could face Rebecca Marino (8) in the last 8.

Last week’s Chennai Open champion Linda Fruhvirtova and runner-up Magda Linette (3) are the other players to watch in the top half. They will bring in a lot of momentum. They could meet in a rematch in the last 8. Fruhvirtova is on a collision course with Raducanu in the second round.

Alexandrova (2), Zhu Lin (4), Gracheva (5), and Maria Tatjana (7) are the big names in the bottom half of the draw.

Alexandrova will take on the American A Muhammad in the first round. Eugenie Bouchard and Maria Tatjana (7) will be an interesting battle in the first round.

Schedule

The main draw of the Korea Open 2022 will begin on Monday, 19 Sept. The quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively.

Prize Money:

The total prize money for this year’s competition is $251,750. The winner will take home a lucrative $31,000 and 250 ranking points.
