This LP Open by IND is better known as Copa LP Chile. The professional female tennis event is played annually on outdoor clay courts. It features both singles and doubles discipline. The tennis tournament based in Chile is relatively new. Since its inception in 2017, the event has been held regularly, except for 2022, due to the covid pandemic. It was previously an ITF event promoted to WTA 125 level this year.
Hungarian tennis player Anna Bondar claimed the singles title in the 2021 edition of the event. Meanwhile, Veronica Cepede Royg, the Paraguayan professional, finished second. Arianne Harono and Olivia Tjandramulia’s partnership captured the doubles title, defeating the Katharina Garlach and Daniela Seguel duo.
This year’s leading seed in the singles of the LP Open by IND is Mayar Sherif. The Egyptian female athlete is currently ranked 49th on the WTA leaderboard. She recently earned her career’s first WTA 500 title at the Emilia-Romagna Open in Italy. Furthermore, she recently became the first Egyptian woman to win a Roland Garros main draw match.
Danka Kovinic from Montenegro is the second seed of the event. The 83rd-ranked WTA tennis player had a fairly competitive run this year. For the first time in her career, she reached the 3rd round in the Australian and French Open 2022. Danka also lost in the first round of the US Open 2022 to Serena Williams in her final professional tournament.
