Pan Pacific Open 2022: Players and Women’s Draw

The 37th edition of the competition is headlined by the defending champion Naomi Osaka. The last time it took place, the home favorite won the 2019 Pan Pacific Open title.

The field will be star-studded by world no. 4 Paula Badosa, world no. 10 Caroline Garcia, world no. 12 Garbine Muguruza, and world no. 13 Veronika Kudermetova, completing the top 4 seeds. The top 4 seeds have received a bye into the second round (Round of 16).

Badosa (1) and Kudermetova (4) anchor the top half of the draw and could meet in the semifinals. 

The Spaniard Paula Badosa will begin her tournament in the second round against the Chinese youngster Q Zheng. Claire Liu, who knocked out Riske (7) in the first round 6-2, 6-3 sets, could be a threat for Badosa or Zheng in the last 8.

Kudermetova could face difficult challenges in the form of Grand Slam champion Sofia Kenin in the second round and the defending champion Naomi Osaka or Haddad Maia (5) in the last 8.

Caroline Garcia (2) and Garbine Muguruza (3) anchor the bottom half of the draw and could meet in the last 4.

This year’s Cincinnati Masters champion and US Open semi-finalist Garcia could face US Open quarter-finalist Karolina Pliskova (6) in the last 8.

Muguruza could face the 2022 Wimbledon Grand Slam champion Elena Rybakina (8) in the last 8. Rybakina will bring in a lot of momentum after finishing last week’s Portoroz as the runner-up.

Prize Money:

The total prize money for this year’s competition is $757,900. The winner will take home a lucrative $71,960.

The main draw of the Pan Pacific Open 2022 will begin on Monday, 19 Sept. The quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively.
