Alphonso Davies was born in a refugee camp in Buduburam, Ghana, to Liberian parents who were displaced during the Second Liberian Civil War as the fourth of 6 children.

They emigrated to Canada in 2005 and eventually settled down in Edmonton.
Davies played football with Free Footie, a league for elementary school students who couldn’t afford the equipment, registration fees, and game transportation.
Then, he joined a soccer accelerator program at University Hill Secondary School and started playing for Edmonton Internationals and Edmonton Strikers.
At 14, he joined the Whitecaps FC Academy. In 2016, he signed with Whitecaps FC 2, becoming the youngest player to get a contract in the USL.
