College Career
Derrick Jones Jr. played one season of college basketball at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) during the 2015-16 season.
As a freshman, Jones averaged 11.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting an impressive 58.9% from the field.
However, Jonesβs college career was cut short due to eligibility issues. In February 2016, he was declared ineligible by the NCAA after an investigation into his ACT scores.
Professional Career
Derrick Jones Jr. went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft but joined the Sacramento Kings for the 2016 NBA Summer League. Due to a groin injury, he was unable to play for the Kings during the tournament.
On September 25, 2016, Jones signed with the Phoenix Suns for training camp and secured an opening-night roster spot. He made his NBA debut on November 19, 2016, against the Philadelphia 76ers.
