Professional Career
Sung Kang turned professional in 2007. He joined the Korean Tour initially, where he had his first taste of success by losing in a playoff at the 2009 Ballantine’s Championship, a co-sanctioned event with the European and Asian Tours.
The following year in 2010, Kang won his first Korean Tour event at the Eugene Securities Open. This victory helped him earn his PGA Tour card for the 2011 season by finishing tied for 16th at the 2010 qualifying school tournament.
Kang made his PGA Tour debut in 2011 but struggled to retain his tour card over the next few seasons. He spent 2013-2015 playing on the Web.com Tour, where he found success by winning 2 events in his home country of South Korea.
These wins allowed Kang to regain his PGA Tour card for 2016 by finishing 22nd in the 2015 Web.com Tour regular season standings.
Once back on the PGA Tour, Kang set a course record by shooting 60 at the 2016 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and had a strong T3 finish at the 2012 Children’s Miracle Network Classic.
