Boko and Mirjana, of ethnic Serb descent, bore Borjan on October 23, 1987, in Knin, SFR Yugoslavia. Playing for the Dinara Knin youth team gave Borjan his first experience with organized football in the community.

In July 2007, he went on trial with Club Atlético River Plate in Argentina. With Quilmes, where he played from January 2008 to the completion of the 2007–2008 Primera B Nacional season, was his final South American engagement.
