Liberatore was born in Victoria’s Melbourne. He was the oldest of three children, the son of Tony Liberatore, a former Western Bulldogs player and Brownlow Medalist, and his mother Jane.
He has Oliver, his younger brother, and Meg, his younger sister. Liberatore played cricket for his school and St. Bernard’s Cricket Club, but he also represented Victoria at the under-16 level in 2008.
