The exciting Bundesliga action resumes with an entertaining Matchday 26 fixture between Union Berlin and Bayern Munich. The match is billed to take place at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in Berlin on the 15th of March, 2025.

As of the time of writing, Union Berlin are currently 12th in the Bundesliga. They have 17 points from their opening 15 Bundesliga games. They have four wins, and five draws and have lost six times in the league this season. Despite a brilliant 2022/23 season where they finished fourth in the league and qualified for a first-ever UEFA Champions League.

They however endured a disappointing 2023/24 season where they finished 15th in the league finishing just above the relegation zone. They won just nine games and lost nineteen matches in the league.

In the summer, they were able to secure the services of left midfielder Tom Rothe from Borussia Dortmund. They were also able to sign midfielder Laszlo Benes from 2.Bundesliga side Hamburg. Goalkeeper Carl Kalus joined on a free transfer from Nuremberg and Andrej Ilic joined on a season-long loan deal from French side Lille.

Jamie Leweling left the club to join Stuttgart after a successful loan stint at the club while left-back Robin Gosens moved to Fiorentina on loan. Experienced defender Robin Knoche also left the club at the end of his contract to join FC Nuremberg.

They began the season with an entertaining 1-1 draw at Mainz. They grabbed their first league win of the season in a hard-fought 1-0 win over newly-promoted St. Pauli on Matchday two. They were beaten for the first time on Matchday five by Borussia Monchengladbach as a late goal by Tomas Cvancara condemned them to defeat.

A 3-2 loss at Stuttgart followed before another draw at home to Bochum. Their last game at the time of writing was a 4-1 bashing at the hands of Werder Bremen. In the German cup, they suffered an embarrassing elimination at the hands of Arminia Bielefeld when they suffered a 2-0 loss in the second round.

As for Bayern Munich, this season was expected to be better than last term after they finished the season trophyless and it has been going according to plan. The Bavarians lost the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen as well as the DFB Pokal, while eventual winners Real Madrid sent them out in the UEFA Champions League.

Under Vincent Kompany, they have been consistent and finished 2024 on a strong note. On the log, the Bavarians have won ten games, drawn three, and lost just once. They are currently top of the log with 36 points – four more than second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.

Certainly, the club needed a new direction after last season’s disappointment. Up to the challenge, Bayern Munich started the season with a 4-0 win over Ulm in the DFB Pokal. In the Bundesliga, the Bavarians won their opening four games against Wolfsburg, Freiburg, Kiel, and Werder Bremen before a 1-1 draw with defending champions Bayer Leverkusen at home.

In the Champions League, Bayern Munich thumped Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 before a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa. A 4-1 defeat at the hands of Barcelona then followed before a hard-fought 1-0 win over Benfica got them back on track. And they also defeated PSG by the same scoreline to keep pace with the sides above them on the log. And their latest UCL game ended in a 5-1 drubbing of Shakhtar.

Back in the Bundesliga, Kompany’s side played an entertaining 3-3 draw against Frankfurt before three consecutive wins against Stuttgart, Bochum, and Union Berlin sent them to the summit of the log. The side also progressed in the DFB Pokal after beating Mainz 4-0 in the round of 32, but Bayer Leverkusen knocked them out in the next round.

In the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich suffered their first loss of the season at Mainz 05. Generally, the side is looking good and Kompany must be pleased with what he has done so far.

The past 11 Bundeliga meetings have ended in a win for Bayern Munich or a draw. And that means Union Berlin are chasing their first win against the Bavarians when they both meet once again.

Prediction

The fixture promises to be an entertaining affair with both sides looking to get something from the match. However, Union Berlin are not even doing well at the moment and chances of them losing to the biggest team in the land looks certain yet again.

Bayern Munich are clear favorites due to their current form and have enough quality in attack to trouble Union Berlin’s backline. By the way, getting Union Berlin tickets early should be your priority as the season is going to an end.

In the reverse fixture, Bayern Munich won 3-0, and barring any unforeseen circumstances or drama, it should be another routine win for Vincent Kompany’s side.
