Born in California, Holland was mostly raised by his grandparents. His parents were in jail throughout most of his early life.
He began martial arts training at the age of 16. Holland was an admirer of Georges St-Pierre. After watching UFC 100, he fell in love with the sport.
He saw the UFC for the first time when visiting his father in Philadelphia.
Throughout his junior career, Holland had five fights. Surprisingly, he won all of them. In 2015, he started his professional MMA career.
