About Khamzat Chimaev
Chimaev was born in Russia’s Chechen Republic. He began taking wrestling lessons at a young age. He also earned a bronze medal at the Russian National Championships during his junior years. Later, in 2013, he moved to Sweden with his mother. He won gold medals in the Swedish Freestyle National Championships in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Chimaev is still considered one of the best freestyle wrestlers from Russia.
In addition to wrestling, he began training in MMA at Allstar Training Center in Stockholm. The Russian wrestler had three amateur MMA fights with a 3-0 record in 2017 and 2018. Khaled Laallam, the future IMMAF World Champion, was on his opponent list. He defeated Lallam via submission during the second round. The month after his third and last amateur fight, Chimaev made his professional MMA debut.
On 26 May 2018, Khamzat Chimaev faced Gard Olve Segan in his debut bout. Knocking out Segan in the second round, he earned his first professional MMA win that night. During the first 2 years, Chimaev fought for the Brave Combat Federation. There he had four fights that he won consecutively.
At the end of the Covid pandemic, Chimaev signed a new deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He made his debut in the UFC on ESPN: Kattar vs Ige event. Defeating John Phillips via 2nd round submission, he once again earned his debut win at UFC. Following that, he had 4 fights till now. Chimaev remains undefeated throughout both his professional UFC and wrestling career. He is scheduled to fight Nate Diaz in the upcoming UFC 279 event.
