Blake Hance was born in Jacksonville, Illinois, U.S. He is the son of Ron and Theresa Hance. His uncle, Jason Hance, played baseball at the United States Military Academy.
Blake attended the same high school as boxing great Ken Norton. He chose Northwestern over several other Big Ten offers as well as Vanderbilt, Missouri, Mississippi State, and North Carolina State for his college education.
College Career
During his college career at Northwestern, Hance played in various positions on the offensive line. He was named to the All-Freshman Team and started eight games at left tackle in 2015.
He was a key player in paving the way for senior running back Justin Jackson to rush for 1,000 yards for the fourth straight season in 2017. In his senior season in 2018, he played in 13 games and made 12 starts at left tackle.
NFL Career
After playing four years at Northwestern, Hance was signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2019.
However, he was soon released on May 22. On June 3, 2019, Hance was signed by the Washington Football Team, where he spent the rest of training camp, being waived on August 31.
On September 1, 2019, Hance was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars to their practice squad, where he spent the entire 2019 season.
Afterward, he was signed to a reserve/futures contract on January 2, 2020, but was waived on September 5. On September 22, 2020, Hance was signed by the New York Jets to their practice squad.
On January 2, 2021, Hance was signed by the Cleveland Browns from the Jets’ practice squad. He made his NFL debut in the fourth quarter, playing 14 snaps.
The Browns placed an exclusive-rights free agent tender on Hance on March 7, 2022. Hance was waived by the Browns on August 30, 2022. On August 31, 2022, Hance was claimed off waivers by the San Francisco 49ers.
