Abraham Ortiz was born on April 24, 1991, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. At the University of North Texas, he played college golf in the United States. In 2011, he won a bronze medal at the Summer Universiade. He played on the Mexican team at the 2010 Eisenhower Trophy and again in 2012 when Mexico was the runner-up.
