In his amateur career, Lingmerth won the 2007 edition of the Dixie Amateur Championship at Palm Aire Country Club in Sarasota, Florida. He also participated twice at the European Amateur Team Championship, representing Sweden. The Swedish player also played college golf for one year at the University of West Florida and three years at the University of Arkansas. In his junior year there, he earned second-team All-Southeastern Conference, Ping All-Central Region and honorable mention All-America honors.
