Career

Gabriel began surfing at the age of only 9 and consecutively won tournaments within a couple of years. He won the competitions in the Sub-12, Sub-14, and Sub-16 brackets.

In 2019, he signed a contract with Rip Curl and started his professional surfing career. In the same year, he won the youngest male winner title by winning the Brazilian Maresias Surf International at the age of 15, which was an open-age pro competition.

Garbriel took part in the World Surf League 2011 for the first time and finished in 12th place. He competed in the WSL’s Junior championship at that time as well. At the age of 19, he won the World Junior Tour (ASP) 2013.

He was a competitor of the WSL competition by winning the first event of the season, the Quicksilver Pro Gold Coast 2014. By the end of the year, he won his first ASP World Championship with 62800 points from 51 heats of that season.

In 2015,2016 and 2017, he went off-tune by finishing in 3rd, 3rd, and 2nd position, respectively. However, in 2015, he won the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing Championship as the first Brazilian.

In 2018, he again became the WSL championship with a score of 62,490 points in 11 competitions. He scored maximum heat of 19.43 out of 47 heats.

In 2019, he lost to Italo Ferreira and became second.  He was eliminated from Round-16 in Quicksilver Pro France and MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal. However, he won a silver and gold medal in the same year at the World Games.

Not long after, in 2021, Gabriel again became the champ of WSL.
