Early Life and Tennis Journey
Begu was born on 26 August 1990 in Bucharest, Romania, to a civil servant mother and an electrician father.
Her aunt, former player Aurelia Gheorghe, put a racket in her hand when she was three and a half years old.
She also tried gymnastics and handball before settling on tennis full time. At 14, she joined an ITF-sponsored junior tour alongside future stars Grigor Dimitrov and Ricardas Berankis, and her childhood idol was Martina Hingis.
