Early Life and Career
Jordy Josué Caicedo Medina was born on November 18, 1997, in Machala, a port city in southern Ecuador.
He grew up in a modest environment and found his footing on football pitches wherever he could — by his own account, he used to play “in the neighborhoods of rich children,” bet money on his performances, and almost always came out on top.
That competitive edge surfaced early. At the age of 15, Caicedo traveled to Brazil for a trial with Santos FC, one of the most decorated clubs in South American football.
The move did not work out, and he returned to Ecuador without a contract. Rather than give up, he continued developing his game locally.
He joined Norte América’s youth setup around 2011 and had a brief loan spell at Deportivo Azogues in 2014.
From 2015, he linked up with Universidad Católica in Quito, one of Ecuador’s more established clubs, where he made his professional breakthrough.
His physicality, movement in the box, and ability to hold up play made him stand out in the Ecuadorian Serie A.
By 2019, his performances had attracted attention from abroad. He joined El Nacional on loan that year before signing for Brazilian club Vitória in 2019, taking his first step outside Ecuador.
These experiences abroad shaped him into the mobile, strong-running striker he became later in Europe.
Professional Career
Caicedo’s career truly accelerated when he moved to Bulgaria in February 2021, joining CSKA Sofia, as tracked on Transfermarkt. He was a revelation in the Bulgarian First Professional League.
In the 2021–22 season alone, he scored 22 goals across all competitions — 16 in the league — and finished as CSKA Sofia’s top scorer. He also earned the Best Foreign Player award in Bulgarian football that year, shared with Jurgen Mattheij.
He helped CSKA Sofia win the Bulgarian Cup in the 2020–21 season, which remains the only major club trophy of his career.
His form earned him a move to Mexico. In July 2022, Tigres UANL signed Caicedo for a €2.5 million transfer fee, according to Transfermarkt.
He struggled to hold down a regular spot at Tigres and spent the 2022–23 season on loan at Sivasspor in Turkey’s Süper Lig, then moved to Atlas in Liga MX on loan. He registered six goals and one assist in 41 combined Liga MX appearances across Tigres and Atlas.
In 2024, Atlas made his signing permanent. He then moved on loan to Sporting Gijón in Spain’s LaLiga 2 for the 2024–25 season.
When that spell ended, he joined Argentine club CA Huracán on loan in January 2026, where he has scored five goals in the Liga Profesional Apertura 2026 season as of March 2026.
On the international stage, Caicedo made his senior Ecuador debut on June 4, 2021, in a World Cup qualifying match against Brazil.
He has gone on to earn more than 30 caps and was part of Ecuador’s 2024 Copa América squad.
