Karch debuted in the national team in 1981. He won silver medals at the NORCECA Championships in 1981 and 1987. He also won gold medals in 1983 and 1985, representing the United States.

He completed the Volleyball triple crown by winning gold medals in 1984 at the Olympic Games, World Cup in 1985, and World Championship in 1986.
