Makwan Amirkhani was born on November 8, 1988, in Kermanshah, Iran, into a Kurdish family. Amirkhani is one of eight children. Following the Iran-Iraq War, his family fled to Iraq and later settled in the Al-Tash refugee camp.
In 1993, they were resettled in Vaasa, Finland, where they faced the challenges of adapting to a new culture and environment
Tragically, he lost both his father and brother in car accidents shortly after they moved to Finland. Despite these hardships, Amirkhani’s mother, Zare, played a pivotal role in his life, encouraging him to pursue sports.
Early Career
Amirkhani transitioned to mixed martial arts (MMA) at the age of 16, training rigorously and honing his skills. He made his professional debut in 2010, competing primarily on the regional circuit in Finland.
He achieved notable success in wrestling, winning a silver medal in the Finnish National Championship in Freestyle in 2010 and a bronze in Greco-Roman wrestling in 2013.
