Alexander Barr Scottish professional golfer Walter Lyle MBE was born on February 9, 1958. Lyle has won two significant awards over his professional career. Together with Nick Faldo and Ian Woosnam, he advanced to become one of Britain’s top players of the 1980s.
He spent 167 of the first 167 weeks of the Official World Golf Ranking’s existence (1986–1989) in the top 10 of the standings. In May 2012, Lyle was admitted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

At the 1978 Nigerian Open, where he also won the Sir Henry Cotton Cup as the season’s top European Rookie, he earned his first professional triumph. The first of Lyle’s eventual 18 victories on the European Tour came in 1979.
