Who is Srisaket Sor Rungvisai?
Sor Rungvisai comes from an impoverished family in Sisaket, Thailand. When he was 13, he moved to Bangkok to escape poverty. There he took work as a security guard in a shopping mall.
Srisaket grew up surrounded by martial arts. His father competed in Muay Thai, but it was more out of necessity than passion. However, the youngster was opposed to competing at first. He only changed his mind when he realized there were few options for a country boy without much education to make a decent living.
Srisaket found out that Japanese promoters were looking for Thai athletes to compete against their stars in boxing. Hearing about reasonable payment, Srisaket took the chance. Although he received a good paycheck, he made a 1-3-1 record in his first five professional bouts, which was hardly the foundation of a world championship run.
Then the Thai boxer joined Nakornloung Promotions which changed his life entirely. He would win 49 of his next 51 bouts and capture many championships, including the WBC-ABCO Super Flyweight Title, the WBC Silver Super Flyweight Title, two WBC Super Flyweight World Titles, and The Ring Super Flyweight World Title.
The fighter is now one of the top pound-for-pound boxers on the planet. Everybody now sees him as the World Champion, not a poor child from Northeastern Thailand anymore. Sor is enjoying more fame, recognition, and financial rewards than he could have ever imagined. He believes his great success is also a heavy responsibility; now, he works to prove and inspire others to follow their dreams.
