He was born to parents who came from Greece. He started playing tennis when he was three, and since he was seven, Todd Langman has been his teacher. 

As a junior, Kokkinakis was placed as high as No. 10 in the world, and he and his friend and partner Nick Kyrgios won the doubles title at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships.

Kokkinakis’s father, Trevor, was a former soccer player, and his bigger brother Panayiotis played Australian rules football.

He attended Scotch College in Adelaide, Australia, and finished Year 12 online. He speaks English and Greek well and has citizenship in both countries. 

Career

Kokkinakis turned professional in 2013 and played his first match on the ATP Tour at the Brisbane International. He lost in the first round to Jarkko Nieminen.

Then, he got a wild card into the Australian Open. He beat Igor Sijsling in his first Grand Slam match, but Rafael Nadal beat him in the second round.

Kokkinakis got back to his old self in 2018. He won two ATP Challenger titles in Aptos and Las Vegas.
