While he played soccer and basketball as a child, he chose tennis when he was 12 to focus on. 

Later, he attended the Mouratoglou Academy in Nice and the National Training Center of the French Tennis Federation in Poitiers.

In 2016, he turned professional and played mainly on ITF Futures and ATP Challenger circuits until 2018, when he qualified for his first ATP main draw at Montpellier Open Sud de France.

His father, Eric, played for ASPTT Metz and later coached youth teams. His mother, Anne, taught physical education and played basketball and volleyball. Lea, his older sister, competed nationally in tennis.

In Altroff, near Metz, he attended a small school until he was 15 years old when he moved to Poitiers to join the National Training Center. He completed his high school diploma online while playing tennis.


As a qualifier at the 2018 US Open, Ugo Humbert lost in the first round to Stan Wawrinka. He finished the year ranked No. 84 globally, winning two ATP Challenger titles.

His first ATP final in 2019 was at the ASB Classic in Auckland, where he lost to Tennys Sandgren.
