In 2009, Putintseva went pro and began playing on the ITF Circuit. She won her first ITF title in 2010 in Alphen aan den Rijn, Netherlands. 2011 she played in her first WTA main draw tournament and made it to the semifinals.

In 2012, she became the top 100 and played in the main draw of her first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open. 2013 she made it to her first WTA quarterfinal at the Guangzhou International Women’s Open.

In 2016, she had her big year. At the French Open, she beat Carla Suárez Navarro and Karin Knapp to get to the quarterfinals for the first time at a Grand Slam tournament. She also made it to the quarterfinals of another Grand Slam at the same event in 2018. 

In 2019, she won her first WTA title at the Nuremberg Cup. In the final, she beat Tamara Zidansek. She also lost the Guangzhou International Women’s Open WTA final to Sofia Kenin that same year.

She won her second WTA title at the Budapest Grand Prix in 2021. In the final, she beat Anhelina Kalinina. In the same year, she also made it to the quarterfinals of another Grand Slam tournament, the US Open. She beat Naomi Osaka and Petra Marti there but lost to Leylah Fernandez.
