On 7 October 2017, Zlatko Dalic was appointed as the Croatia coach following the sacking of Ante Cacic due to a series of poor results.
Taking charge, Dalic helped the nation to qualify for the 2018 World Cup through qualifying playoffs. Croatia beat Greece 4-1 in the first leg and drew 0-0 in the second to reach the World Cup finals.
In the FIFA World Cup 2018, Croatia won all three of its group-stage games. They beat Nigeria 2-0 and Iceland 2-1.
