You’re allowed one clear bag plus one clutch. That’s the combination most fans use.
The clutch exception is the one most people miss. A small wallet, phone pouch, or evening clutch under 4.5″ x 6.5″ doesn’t need to be transparent. Carry it in addition to your main clear bag.
What Bags Are Prohibited?
These bags won’t get through security:
- Standard backpacks (the most common reason fans get turned away)
- Opaque fanny packs and belt bags (even small ones)
- Purses and tote bags (unless clear and within the size limit)
- Camera bags and briefcases (almost never meet the clear bag standard)
- Any bag over 12″ x 6″ x 12″ (regardless of material)
The fanny pack rule causes the most confusion. An opaque fanny pack is prohibited. A clear fanny pack within the size limit is allowed. One rule, two different outcomes depending entirely on the material.
What Happens If Your Bag Doesn’t Comply?
You’ll be asked to return it to your car. There is no bag check and no storage at Levi’s Stadium. Fans arriving by transit have no options once they’re at the gate. Sort your bag before you leave home.

Exceptions: Medical Bags and Diaper Bags
Medical Bags
Medical bags are permitted but go through a separate inspection. Gate staff will check the contents and attach a wristband to the bag. Don’t lose the wristband. You’ll need it if security checks again inside.
If you’re carrying medications, an EpiPen, insulin pump, or inhaler, a prescription label or doctor’s note isn’t officially required but speeds things up significantly. Arrive at least 30 minutes earlier than you otherwise would.
Diaper Bags
Diaper bags are allowed when you have a child with you. They go through standard inspection. Keep it compact. The smaller the bag, the faster you move through the line.

What Else Can You Bring In?
Cameras
Cameras with a lens 3 inches or shorter are allowed. No selfie sticks, tripods, or monopods. If you normally carry your camera in a bag, that bag must comply with the clear bag dimensions. Most dedicated camera bags don’t qualify, so use a neck strap or fit the camera inside your clear tote.
Flags
National flags smaller than 2 feet x 3 feet are permitted. No poles, no sticks. Fold it into your clear bag on the way in. Flags with poles are prohibited.
Food and Water
Factory-sealed plastic water bottles under 24 oz are allowed. Reusable clear bottles work too. No cans, no glass, no alcohol. Food is permitted in clear plastic wrapping, with cut fruit only. Whole pieces of fruit are not allowed.
No Bag Check at Levi’s Stadium
Levi’s Stadium does not offer bag check for any event. There is no off-site drop point organized by the stadium. If your bag doesn’t comply when you arrive, you’re walking back to your car.
If You’re Flying In or Traveling with Luggage
International fans arriving on match day with suitcases need to store luggage before reaching the stadium. Services like Stasher, Bounce, and LuggageHero have locations in San Francisco and downtown San Jose. Store in the city before heading south to Santa Clara. The stadium is not equipped to handle luggage.
How Long Does Security Take?
Standard Levi’s Stadium events run 10–15 minutes through security screening. FIFA World Cup matches use enhanced security that takes 25–30 minutes. That’s double the normal wait, and it builds quickly as kickoff approaches.
How Early Should You Arrive?
The stadium recommends 2.5 hours before kickoff. With FIFA’s enhanced screening and expected World Cup crowds, 3 hours early is the safer target. If you’re taking Caltrain or VTA from San Francisco or San Jose, factor in transit time on top of that.
