Haeran Ryu moved two shots clear at the BMW Ladies Championship on Friday, shooting a bogey-free 64 to reach 13 under midway through the ongoing LPGA tournament.

The South Korean leads Lauren Coughlin and Kim Min-sun at Pine Beach Golf Links in Haenam, with two rounds remaining before the championship concludes on Sunday, October 25.

Ryu’s second round featured two front-nine eagles and four birdies after the turn. The Associated Press reported that birdies at the final two holes completed her 64.

Her total of 131 followed an opening 67, and she has yet to make a bogey this week. That combination has given Ryu control heading into Saturday.

Kim matched Ryu’s 64 to reach 11 under, while American contender Coughlin shot 66. Both remain within one strong stretch of overturning the leader’s two-shot advantage this weekend.

The LPGA’s official leaderboard confirmed Julia Lopez Ramirez and Karis Davidson tied for fourth at 10 under, keeping five players within three strokes of the lead after Friday.

Behind them, Chizzy Iwai and Yuri Yoshida were among those at nine under. The crowded chasing group leaves Ryu with work ahead despite her exceptional opening two rounds.

Her scoring has been supported by unusually precise approach play. Yonhap reported that Ryu missed only two fairways and one green across the first 36 holes in Haenam.

Those numbers help explain the absence of bogeys. Ryu has repeatedly given herself scoring opportunities while avoiding the recovery situations that can interrupt momentum on a links course.

The leader still identified room for improvement on the greens. She needed 32 putts in each round and said missed short putts had prevented a lower score.

That makes her position intriguing: she has built a lead through ball-striking accuracy while believing more chances remain available. Converting those opportunities could prove decisive this weekend.

Weather may complicate the next two rounds. Coughlin told Yonhap she expected rain to change how the course plays and anticipated a demanding finish if conditions deteriorate.

The American described an approach built around making pars and adding birdies when possible. That would require a different rhythm from simply chasing Friday’s lowest scores .

Ryu, Kim and Coughlin are scheduled together in Saturday’s final group. Their pairing puts the three leading contenders alongside one another as the championship enters its final stretch.

Kim is making only her second LPGA appearance, according to Yonhap. A victory would offer the nonmember a route to tour membership, adding another dimension to her opportunity.

Lopez Ramirez reached 10 under with a 67, while Davidson followed her opening 66 with a 68. The Australian remained involved after sharing the first-round lead on Thursday.

Defending champion Sei Young Kim shot 67 to stand at five under, the AP reported. She remains eight shots behind Ryu with half of the tournament remaining.

The event runs October 22-25 at Pine Beach, with the LPGA’s official standings showing Ryu alone in first. Friday’s update establishes the halfway position, with no champion decided.

For the challengers, the immediate target is close enough to pressure Ryu. A two-shot margin offers separation, but it leaves little protection against Saturday’s leaderboard.

Ryu has supplied the cleanest scorecard among the leaders. Maintaining that control through changing conditions is the next task as the BMW Ladies Championship moves into the weekend.
