LeBron James’ availability remains a central question for Philadelphia as the unbeaten 76ers prepare to host the Detroit Pistons on Sunday after resting him against Milwaukee.

James missed Saturday’s 127-116 victory for back/sciatica management. The Sixers improved to 3-0, but his absence leaves a decision before the second game of their back-to-back.

Coach Nick Nurse was noncommittal when asked whether James would return against Detroit, according to Sixers Wire’s Sunday preview, republished by AOL. His participation was not confirmed.

The uncertainty also involves Joel Embiid, who played Saturday. Philadelphia’s final combination of available stars will shape its rotation against a Detroit team entering at 2-0.

Embiid is expected to rest Sunday, Reuters reported. That expectation remains distinct from a confirmed team designation, with the Sixers’ injury report still pending in the previews.

Saturday showed Philadelphia can win without James. Embiid delivered 28 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, while Jaylen Brown added 27 points and Tyrese Maxey scored 26.

Those performances protected the Sixers’ perfect start while James sat. Facing Detroit a night later creates a different test of the new roster’s depth and flexibility.

The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. Eastern at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Sixers Wire lists NBC Sports Philadelphia as the local television broadcaster for Sunday’s matchup.

Detroit will be without Jalen Duren because of a right hamstring strain, while Ausar Thompson is questionable with an ankle sprain, Liberty Ballers reported in its preview.

Former Sixer Paul Reed is a potential replacement at center. He supplied 19 points and 11 rebounds against Miami after Duren left that game injured.

Those frontcourt absences matter for a Philadelphia team that has struggled on the glass. Duren and Thompson are among Detroit’s leading rebounders, adding another variable.

For Philadelphia, James’ potential return would give Nurse another playmaker alongside Maxey and Brown. Until his status is confirmed, the previewed lineup remains subject to change.

The early schedule has already included James’ home debut against Cleveland. Sunday closes a three-game homestand before Philadelphia travels to Indiana for its next game on Wednesday.

The Pistons matchup therefore brings two priorities together: extending an unbeaten start and determining the available rotation on a demanding weekend for Philadelphia’s veteran stars.
