About Anett Kontaveit

Anett Kontaveit was born in Tallinn on December 24, 1995. She began playing tennis at the age of six and was coached by her father, Andrus Kontaveit until she was ten.

She then joined the AOTK Tennis Club in Tallinn and trained under Rene Busch and Silver Karjus, who had previously coached Kaia Kanepi. She also attended Audentes Sports School in Tallinn.

Kontaveit’s father, Andrus Kontaveit, competed in two Olympic Games (1988 and 1992) and won several national championships as a professional cyclist.

Career

Anett Kontaveit debuted her WTA main draw in 2013, losing to Pennetta in R1. She won her first WTA match in 2014 at the US Open, upsetting Suárez Navarro. In 2015, she reached her first WTA SF at Shenzhen, losing to Halep.

In 2016, Kontaveit won her first WTA title and reached the US Open fourth round. In 2017, she had a breakout season with six quarterfinals and two semifinals, including a Premier Mandatory quarterfinal and a Premier 5 semifinal.
