About Axar Patel
Axar Patel was born on 2 April 1990 in Nadiad, Gujarat, India. He made his first-class debut for Gujarat in 2008 and his List-A debut in 2009. He made his international debut for India in 2014. He idolized Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh as a youngster. He completed his schooling at Dharmsinh Desai University in Nadiad and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

Axar Patel was born into a cricketing family. His father, Pankaj Patel, was a first-class cricketer and his uncle, Jaydev Patel, played Test cricket for India. Axar Patel started playing cricket at a young age and soon showed promise as a left-arm spinner. He made his first-class debut for Gujarat in 2008 and his List-A debut in 2009.
He was also one of the key contributors to India Under-23s’ title wins in the 2013 ACC Emerging Teams Cup, with seven wickets, including a four-for in the semi-final against UAE. He was named the BCCI Under-19 cricketer of the year for the 2012/13 season.
Career
Axar Patel has had a successful career in international cricket. He has played 11 Tests, 50 ODIs, and 13 T20Is for India. He has taken 45 wickets in Tests, 82 in ODIs, and 22 in T20Is. He was a member of the Indian team that won the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.
He made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe on 17 July 2015 and took three wickets for nine runs in his first match. He became a regular member of the limited-overs squads, stepping in more often than not in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja. He also played for Durham in the English county cricket in 2018.
He made his Test debut for India against England on 13 February 2021, where he took seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings. He became the ninth bowler for India to take a five-wicket haul on debut in Test cricket.
He also made a quick-fire fifty, his first in ODIs, against West Indies in March 2023 to seal a series win for India.
