Axar Patel was born on 2 April 1990 in Nadiad, Gujarat, India. He made his first-class debut for Gujarat in 2008 and his List-A debut in 2009. He made his international debut for India in 2014. He idolized Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh as a youngster. He completed his schooling at Dharmsinh Desai University in Nadiad and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

Axar Patel started playing cricket at a young age and soon showed promise as a left-arm spinner. He made his first-class debut for Gujarat in 2008 and his List-A debut in 2009.
