Lin Zhu, a Chinese tennis player, was born in Wuxi on January 28, 1994. Her father, Zhu Jiangming, who works in finance, introduced her to tennis when she was four years old. Her mother, Chen Yunqi, is a travel agent.

Early Life

Lin Zhu, a Chinese tennis player, began playing on the ITF Junior Circuit in September 2009 at the age of 15. She lost to Melis Sezer of Turkey in her first singles final at the China Junior 1 Open.

She won her first singles title and doubles title at the Widjojo Soejono Semen Gresik Junior Championships and Solo Open International Junior Championships, respectively, in October 2009. 

She made her junior Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open in January 2010, where she reached the third round. She reached the quarterfinals of the Dunlop Japan Open Junior Championships and the semifinals of the Asian Closed Junior Tennis Championships in April and May 2010, respectively. She finished her junior career with a singles ranking of No. 63 and a doubles ranking of No. 47.

Lin Zhu turned professional in 2012 and competed primarily on the ITF Circuit for the next few years. In March 2012, she won her first ITF singles title at the $10K event in Shenzhen, China. She won her first ITF doubles title in June 2012 at the $25K event in Changwon, South Korea. 

She reached her first ITF singles final at the $50K level in July 2014 at the Nanchang Challenger, where she lost to Wang Qiang of China. She reached her first ITF doubles final at the $100K level in November 2014 at the Suzhou Ladies Open, where she lost to Chan Chin-wei and Chuang Chia-Jung of Chinese Taipei.

She made her WTA Tour main-draw debut in September 2015 at the Guangzhou International Women’s Open, where she received a wild card but lost to Petra Martić of Croatia in the first round. 

In October 2015, she advanced to her first WTA Tour main-draw quarterfinal at the Tianjin Open, defeating former world No. 1 Jelena Janković of Serbia. She won her first WTA Tour doubles title in 2019 and her first singles final in 2020. In 2023, she reached her career-high singles ranking of No. 33.
