Wilco Nienaber was born in South Africa on April 7, 2000. He started playing golf when he was eight years old and soon showed how good he was and how much he could do.

In December 2018, he made his first appearance on the European Tour as an amateur at the South African Open at Randpark Golf Club, north of Johannesburg.

Professional Career

In the middle of 2019, Nienaber became a full-time worker. In late November 2019, he played his first professional tournament on the European Tour. It was the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek CC in Malelane, South Africa. 

Nienaber got his first top-10 finish on the European Tour in August 2020. He was fourth in the Hero Open at Forest of Arden CC in England. Nienaber moved up to 270th on the Official World Golf Ranking in September 2020, 14 months after he turned pro.

Nienaber’s drive on the 597-yard, par-5 4th hole at the Randpark Golf Club in Johannesburg, South Africa, in the second round of the Joburg Open in November 2020 set a European Tour season record of 439 yards. 

At the time, it was 16 yards longer than the PGA Tour season record. Ultimately, he came in second, two shots behind Joachim B. Hansen. This was the best finish of his career, putting him at number 209 on the Official World Golf Ranking.
