Mackenzie Hughes posted a four-under 67 on Friday, October 30, to reach 10 under at the VidantaWorld Mexico Open as the second round continued.
The Canadian followed his opening 65 with another round in the 60s at Vidanta Vallarta, completing 36 holes in 132 strokes on the par-71 layout.
The PGA Tour’s official scoring showed Hughes finished at 10 under during Friday’s play. His position remained provisional, with other competitors still completing their rounds.
Vidanta Vallarta is a Greg Norman design measuring 7,337 yards. The venue hosts a 120-player field competing through Sunday on Mexico’s Pacific coast.
Karl Vilips set that first-round pace with a nine-under 62. His round featured 10 birdies, including five consecutively on his opening nine and four to finish.
The Mexico Open is the fifth of eight FedExCup Fall events, with players pursuing valuable points as the season moves toward its final tournaments.
Those standings carry consequences beyond the weekly trophy. The top-100 boundary matters for full playing status, while positions 51–60 provide access to two early-season signature events.
The tournament offers a $6 million purse, including $1.08 million for the winner, alongside 500 FedExCup points. Brian Campbell is the defending champion at Vidanta Vallarta.
U.S. viewers can follow Friday’s coverage on Golf Channel from 4–7 p.m. Eastern, with simulcasts through Golfchannel.com and its app, according to GOLF’s viewing guide.
Campbell won the 2025 edition at 20 under after a playoff against Aldrich Potgieter. His return gives the field a defending champion familiar with closing here.
Vilips already has playing security through 2027 from his 2025 Puerto Rico Open victory. That separates his fall objectives from competitors fighting to retain their cards.
Six Mexican players are in the field, including Alvaro Ortiz, who earned a 2027 PGA Tour card after finishing fifth on the Korn Ferry Tour points list.
The Tour remains in Mexico next week for the World Wide Technology Championship at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, extending the fall’s regional swing.
The championship runs through Sunday, November 1. Hughes’s completed second round is confirmed, but the halfway lead and final weekend field remain subject to subsequent scoring.
