Khabib Nurmagomedov is a Russian mixed martial art promoter but that’s not his only identity, he is mostly known for his mixed martial art career. Nurmagomedov was one of the best fighting champions in the whole MMA division.

He has a record of dominating UFC lightweight for the longest time in history. He held that championship title from April 2018 to March 2021.

In his career as an MMA artist, he spends his time very gloriously. All the players fear him, there was nobody who has enough strength and power to fight against Nurmagomedov. Besides being an MMA fighter, Nurmagomedov had a nice background history in sambo, judo, and wrestling.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s life started from a small village called Sildi, in the district of Tsumadinsky of Dagestan ASSR which an autonomous republic within the Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. He was born on 20 September 1988. He spends a few of his childhood time there. And then the Nurmagomedov family moved to Kirovaul. Nurmagomedov’s life started to join with the MMA from here.

Nurmagomedov’s father’s Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was an ex-army officer. When they moved to Kirovaul his father turned their two-story building’s ground floor into a gym. Nurmagomedov used to see gym members work out and their boxing training. From there, he builds his love for boxing. He felt a huge attraction towards fighting. Nurmagomedov grow up with his siblings and cousins in the same house. He has an older brother Magomed, and a younger sister Amina.

In Dagestan, there is a tradition of learning MMA from a young age. All most boys come to the gym instructor with a heart of a full dream to learn boxing at the age of 7/8. Nurmagomedov also started his training at the age of 8 under his father’s care. His father has also started his wrestling training at an early age. His father Abdulmanap also take training in judo, sambo, and the military. Abdulmanap was also the senior coach of the national sambo combat team.

Nurmagomedov, started his wrestling training at the age of 12, when he was 15 he started judo, and begun to learn sambo combat at 17. When Nurmagomedov was 9, he got into a fight with a bear and it was his first fight. In his childhood, he always got into street fights.

Career:

Nurmagomedov careers officially and professionally begin in 2008. He steps into the MMA ring in 2008 September. He complied four fights in a month and won every single one of them. On 11 October in the Moscow event, Nurmagomedov defeated three of his opponents and becomes the inaugural Atrium Cup tournament champion. He finished 11 or 12 matches in the next three years and all of them Nurmagomedov became the winner by TKO or submission. In 2011, he fights for the ProFC promotion. It was a seven-fight row and Nurmagomedov won all of them.

After that, when Nurmagomedov’s records were 16 wins and 0 lose then the Russian and Ukrainian sport’s government shows interest to put him in the UFC fight. But unfortunately, it happens a bit later cause they were filing for 11 cases by the ProFC promotion.

Fighting history:

Anyway, after solving the case court problem, at the end of 2011, Nurmagomedov signed a deal with UFC for six fights. He debuted into the UFC ring in 2012, on 20 January. He fought that match against Kamal Shalorus and won by submission in the third round.

His second match takes place at the UFC 148. It was against Gleison Tibau, and Nurmagomedov defeated him by unanimous decision. On January 19, 2013, Nurmagomedov played his third UFC match against Thiago Tavares. Nurmagomedov won the game by KO in the first round. His next fight was at the UFC 160 against Abel Trujillo. Nurmagomedov once again defeated his opponents.

Nurmagomedov’s fifth match becomes the luckiest fight for him. It was UFC 165 and his opponent was Pat Healy. Nurmagomedov won the game via unanimous decision. It brought him huge praise from the audience and the critics. He attends his first post-event press conference after this match. There the UFC manager Dana White prised him talked a lot about his glorious future.

After that Khabib Nurmagomedov continuously fought many battles and won them as no one could stop him. In 2013 December, Nurmagomedov challenged Gilbert Melendez through social media. They were about to fight in the UFC 170. But the bout was canceled for an unknown reason. And then Nurmagomedov was selected to fight against Nate Diaz. But unfortunately, Diaz turns down the fight. By this event, he expressed his feeling in the MMA Hour and said, “If they say that they’re willing to fight the best, they should fight the best. If they want, I’ll take them both at once in the cage.”

Khabib defeats McGregor at UFC 229:

Nurmagomedov won the UFC. Lightweight Championship belt in 2018 on 7 April. After became the champion, on 3 August 2018 it was announced that Nurmagomedov will protect his belt for the first time against Conor McGregor at the UFC 229.

In that match, Khabib Nurmagomedov won the first two rounds of the match. But in the third round, he loses for the first time in his UFC career. But on the four-round Nurmagomedov took his revenge back and defeated McGregor by submission. It was a historical match, it became the highest buying pay-per-view MMA event of all time. The buying number was 2.4 million. After winning the match against McGregor, Nurmagomedov meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Personal Life:

Nurmagomedov is a Sunni Muslim. He is now the second most famous Muslim athlete in the world after the Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah. Nurmagomedov is the most followed person on social media in Russia. Besides MMA, Nurmagomedov continues his study too. As of 2019, he was a third-year economics student at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. Nurmagomedov is very good with language too. He can speak Avar, Russian, English, Turkish, Arabic.

Nurmagomedov was married to Patimat in June 2013. They have three children together. Nurmagomedov personally football a lot. His favourite team is Liverpool F.C. and Ream Married and obviously the Russian national team.

Khabib Nurmagomedov has made quite a good amount of money from his MMA career. His total net worth is about 40 million dollars. He won about 14,770,000 dollars from various matches.

In 2014 his win against Rafael dos Anjos made him 32,000 dollars and the bonus was 32000 dollars. In 2016 Nurmagomedov made 135,000 dollars from the against Darrell Horcher. He got 230,000 dollars after the win against Edson Barboza at UFC 219. Nurmagomedov’s biggest victory against McGregor made him 1,540,000 dollars. He was fined 500,000 dollars for a post-fight incident.
