Corentin Moutet returned to ATP competition with a 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (4) win over Ugo Humbert in Lyon on October 20.
Univers Tennis reported that Moutet described relief after his comeback, while remaining cautious about a wrist problem that had disrupted his 2026 season.
The Frenchman told Univers Tennis in his post-match comments that he had skipped the Asian swing to give himself time to recover and train.
He said pain had complicated his preparations throughout the year. An earlier attempt to resume playing after the US Open had come too soon.
Moutet reported no pain on October 20, but would not declare the wrist permanently healed. He described assessing its condition day by day.
Before returning to the main tour, he tested himself at a club tournament in Caluire. Playing twice in one day helped him assess his wrist’s response.
His Lyon victory required more than three hours against another French left-hander. After taking the opening set, Moutet had to settle the contest in a deciding tiebreak.
The Tennis.com match statistics show how often he escaped danger: Moutet saved 10 of the 12 break points he faced.
Humbert hit 12 aces to Moutet’s one, but that serving advantage did not deliver the result. Moutet converted four of his 10 break opportunities.
Moutet landed 73 percent of his first serves, compared with Humbert’s 58 percent. Both players won half the points played behind their second serves.
Those figures illustrate the distinction between free points and protecting service games. Despite the ace deficit, Moutet held in 14 of his 16 service games.
Next comes Félix Balshaw, according to TennisActu’s report. The 20-year-old Frenchman beat Jaime Faria 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 on October 19.
That was Balshaw’s first main-draw match at ATP Tour level. Moutet therefore moves from an experienced compatriot to a younger opponent beginning his tour breakthrough.
TennisActu listed Moutet at No. 94 and Humbert at No. 35 for this encounter. The winner now has another opportunity to rebuild momentum.
Moutet’s ATP biography records finals in Mallorca and Almaty during 2025, when he collected a personal-best 31 tour-level victories.
He also reached the fourth round at Roland Garros in 2024 and at the US Open in 2022.
That history provides perspective on a player seeking continuity after interrupted preparation.
Recovery becomes the immediate priority before Balshaw. Moutet said he needed to recover and prepare carefully for what he expected to be a difficult match.
