Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal are called the Big 3 of tennis. They have been dominating the men’s singles from the 2003 Wimbledon up to the 2021 US Open. They have won 60 of the 73 Grand Slam titles where each of them sharing all-time record of 20 titles each.

But the era of these three is ending and much gossips are rising about the rise of the new Big 3. Surprise Sports has picked three tennis players who have been performing very well in recent years and are the worthy complainant of the future Big 3.

1. Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev is a 25 years old Russian Tennis player. He has won 9 titles so far and is one of the most promising futures of tennis.

In 2018, he registered his first ATP title. Daniil defeated Steve Johnson at the 2018 Winston Salem Open. He got the biggest early achievement of his career in October 2018. He won his first ATP 500 title and also the 3rd title of his career then.

Medvedev won the Sydney International against Alex De Minaur. He also had the most hardcourt wins of the 2018 season, 38 wins on the ATP tour. Medvedev also won the most titles on hard court tournaments with three titles, tied with Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Karen Khachanov.

Medvedev’s Career:

At the summer hardcourt session in the USA in 2019, he had a dream run. He played six tournament finals including the US Open and three Masters 1000 events. Medvedev by far has conquered four Masters 1000 titles.

The player continued his rise in 2020. He got the biggest breakthrough in 2021. Medvedev reached US Open Final, which was his second grand slam final. He fought against the legendary Novac Djokovic who had won three grand slams in the year. It would be his calendar grand slam year if he won the US Open Finals. But Medvedev won the final by defeating the number one.

Medvedev became the first Russian to win the US Open since the year 2000. He also won the first major tournament of his career, which was a joy for the whole nation.

Medvedev is currently the world’s number 2 and he is expected to climb up in the first position by next year. If he continues to play in this manner, he will be on the Big 3 in the future.

2. Alexander Zverev

Alexander Zverev is a German tennis player who is currently ranked number 7 and was a former number three ATP player. He has got his tennis gene from his parents, as both of them were tennis players.

Zverev’s Career:

At the age of 17, Zverev reached the last four at the German open. Before that, he never won an ATP tournament. He defeated Roger Federer in 2016 and broke his streak often back-to-back appearances in the final. In 2016, he won his first ATP title.

In 2018, he won ATP World Tour Finals crown. He defeated Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in the semifinals and finals. This is his biggest title so far in his career. He reached the quarterfinals of the French Open in 2018 and 2019. At the 2019 Laver Cup, Zverev helped Team Europe to win the title defeating Milos Raonic.

The best achievement of Zverev’s career is that he has won the gold medal in Tokyo Olympics 2021 in men’s singles. He defeated Karen Khachanov and won the finals. In the semi-finals, he defeated the number one Novac Djokovic and made it to the final. The tournament’s victory was the most significant one of his career.

3. Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas is a Greek tennis player who has been praised by tennis fans all over the world for his amazing gameplay and performance. In 2016, he and his partner Kenneth Raisma reached the top of Wimbledon and won the first prize in the junior double category. This was one of the greatest tennis wins of greek history. He became the no. 1 junior tennis player in the world in 2017.

On his 23rd birthday, Stefanos achieved seven career titles, which is more than most tennis players. He won the 2019 ATP Finals and the 2021 Monte Carlo Masters which was his first 1000- level win and also three grand slam semi-finals appearances. He won 25 of his first 14 slams after entering the french open.

Tsitsipas’s Career:

Entering the French Open, Stefanos Tsitsipas had won 25 matches in his first 14 Slams. He has many similarities with Roger Federer. Stefanos can create sharp angles from nowhere with a one-handed backhand and a forehand. This makes his serves one of the most dominants in the tour. The way he was knocking the two times defending champion Federer out of the 2019 Australian Open, the world thought that he is going to be in the ruling class of tennis.

Stefanos is the first Greek who reached a grand slam single final. He has improved a lot this year. the win-loss record is 39-8. He has 10 matches won than any other on the ATP. Now he is on his no. 1 race as he collected his first  1000 title, at Monte Carlo. Tsitsipas is having a steady improvement in his games. In last year’s US Open, he lost to Borna Coric in the third round with six points. He is now trying to move to another level.

In his first season, Tsitsipas was ranked 210 in the world at the end of 2017, he was ranked in the top 10. He reached as high as five in 2018 and became the first greek to achieve such status. He won against the Big Three Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer by the time he was 22.

Stefanos Tsitsipas reached so close to the French Open crown this year. He had a two-set lead against Djokovic, but the world’s number 1 made an amazing comeback and claim the victory. He also won the 2019 season-ending ATP final title and became the youngest champion.

Tsitsipas is also making rivals in the sport. Daniil Medvedev once called him boring. He replied that Medvedev was a “bullshit Russian” whom he defeated very easily in Paris. Djokovic, the current number one said about him, “He is a hard worker, dedicated, nice guy. He’s very smart and wise. I love the fact that he is more than just a tennis player and he’s always looking to learn from experience and to understand something new about himself.” said the world’s number one “That’s the trait of a champion, of someone who has great potential to be number one in the world and win Slams and be a great ambassador for the sport.”

The potential this young man has will surely make him one of the next Big 3.
